Especially in this election year, what an amazing reminder that God is in control. The leaders in power are never out of His control. He’s not striving to make sure the candidate He wants is election – hoping that everything pans out ok. He already knows and He is actually orchestrating. And Paul is writing that we should be subject to governing authority in a time when their governing authority was ROUGH. Most disciples would be killed under this authority. All would be persecuted. But still, Paul recognizes that as long as it doesn’t contradict your ability to obey God, we are subject to governing authority. Friend, God knows all and nothing is hidden from Him or out of His control. So honor, respect, and pay taxes.
